In 1998 British Prime Minister Tony Blair published his political ideas as Third Way in the Fabian Pamphlet and his plan for social welfare reforms in New ambitions for our country: A New Contract for Welfare. Also in Japan, since 2001 the series of Basic Policies for Economic and Fiscal Management and Structural Reform have been decided by Koizumi Cabinet.
Social welfare reforms were included in those basic policies. And Koizumi Cabinet has launched social welfare reforms on the basis of those policies decided by his cabinet. In general Japanese social welfare institutions have been influenced by western countries including Great Britain.
In this paper Ｉwould like to describe the similarities and differences between the British contemporary social welfare reforms and the Japanese as the emerging social welfare policies.
